Animals that are disfigured generally have a much harder time getting adopted. After all, even those super cute faces can find it challenging to find their forever home. Fortunately for an unusual looking pup known as Lisa, the ten-week-old managed to buck the odds by getting especially lucky.
She was brought to the Humane Society Of Silicon Valley in California with scars all over her face and inflamed eyelids that required surgery. Staff at the shelter said they weren’t sure they could find a home for the pup, that is, until Christine Doblar and her family walked in.
Christine told The Dodo, “My girls were freaking out the whole time that somebody else was going to take her. She’s pretty funky looking [but she] has a wonderful, sparkling personality. The fact that she was going to each of us, and just as loving and exuberant with everyone she greeted … we looked at a few more dogs but nobody could compare to that.”
Despite whatever painful challenges Lisa had faced before arriving at HSSV from a local city shelter, staff member Finnegan Dowling told the site she was “was a pretty typical wiggly, squirmy, happy puppy,” adding, “She loves other dogs and toys, is ridiculously kissy and she’ll lick your nose clean off … She wasn’t hesitant or frightened or timid at all.”
“They just needed to make sure they could find a family who would look past Lisa’s scars and love her for the happy puppy she wanted to be,” Finnegan added.
Lisa certainly got lucky, but so did the Doblar family who went back the very same day and adopted her – and, aptly renamed “Lucky.”
