Good parents will stop at nothing when it comes to caring for their children. This fact is something single dad Greg Wickerherst proves good and well.
Greg Wickherst was recently faced with a bit of a dilemma. As a single dad he was constantly getting requests from his 3-year-old daughter Izzy to do her hair. Greg had no idea where to even begin when it came to creating a simple ponytail or bun, let alone a fancy braid. Instead of telling his daughter “no” or making her go to school with icky hair he decided to do something serious about it. He enrolled in beauty school.
His hard work paid off and Greg is now a hair genius! He even regularly shares photos of Izzy sporting some pretty cool hairstyles via his Facebook page.
Here is the adorable Colorado-based duo, 3-year-old Izzy and her dad, Greg Wickherst.
Greg works at IntelliTec College, which happens to have a cosmetology department on campus. So Greg made some inquiries and ventured into the beauty department for some help. Everyone was more than willing to help him out, and Greg was enrolled in basic classes right away.
In an interview with the Huffington Post Greg said, “It blew my mind how easy it was to do a bun. I thought it was something super special, like real intricate, especially the one where you don’t finish pulling the ponytail.”
He goes on to say, “In no time, I was able to do a simple braid, then a fishbone braid, and a French braid. I learned how to do a ponytail, then flip it through itself either under or over. I call that an inverted ponytail.”
Greg and his wife split up over a year ago, and dad now spends the majority of time with Izzy. Instantly Greg realized buns, ponytails and braids had to become one of his many talents, after all girls need their long locks tended to on a daily basis.
Thanks to all that Greg learned in beauty school he is now able to do his daughter’s golden strands in all of the latest styles.
His hard work and dedication most certainly paid off–just look at how adorable Izzy is rocking those awesome braids!
Greg has mastered a number of different styles, and he now has a couple of hair goals he is working to achieve. Such as he wants to do his daughter’s hair like Elsa from Frozen. I’m sure many little girls are envious of Izzy’s forever fresh braids, especially if she starts looking like the highly adored Elsa!
This awesome dad proves there is nothing parents won’t do to make their children happy. Being a single mom or dad isn’t always easy, and sometimes you have to put yourself out there and exit your comfort zone. Just as Greg did when he ventured down to his school’s cosmetology department for some help.
His advice for all single parents is to enjoy it, every last minute of it. “The good and the not-so-good. Even the blowout diapers, the tantrums in the store, and the late night, up sick, catching-throw-up-in-your-bare-hands nights. Because it doesn’t last forever.”
“My favorite part of the day is when I wake her up and get her out of bed and she’s still sleepy, so she nuzzles her face into my neck. … That love right there, feeling that love and that trust is the most rewarding part.”
