Jason Frost and his friend Brandon Key were out fishing Saturday morning on the Warrior River in Alabama and discovered two very unlikely keepers: abandoned kittens.

The pair said they heard a splash and saw something swimming across the water toward them at full speed, seemingly from out of nowhere, but they weren’t sure exactly what it was until they heard the meows.

Frost plucked the tiny ginger cat out of the water to safety, and then just moments later another kitten joined it. In a video of the incident, which you can watch below, Frost remarked, “Never in my life have I seen anything like that.

Both men can be heard getting quite emotional as they come across their unusual catch.

As Frost waits for the second cat to swim up he says, “Is this not the craziest thing you’ve ever seen, we’re out here trying to fish and there’s damn cats swimming towards the boat, cause some jackass probably put them out here.”

He told Alabama Today of the incident, “Everybody always has a crazy fishing story, and that’s all it is, is a story.

“If I wouldn’t have had this on video, everybody would have thought I was crazy.”

After bringing the kittens back to shore, the fishermen met a young family who offered to give them a home — providing a happy ending for all involved.
