With the wide variety of cuisines and dining experiences available world-wide, you would think you’d have seen it all when it comes to restaurants by now – but that’s far from the truth.
What if I told you that you could feast on the most lavish and decadent meal you could ever dream of, all while watching as beautiful ocean life swims around you? You may think it’s too good to be true, something from a fantasy, but it’s not.
A place exists where you can have such an extraordinary dining experience, some even calling it the most beautiful restaurant in the world.
In the stunning Maldive Islands is the Ithaa Underwater Restaurant, which offers an elaborate 6-course meal composed of fine contemporary European cuisine.
The fixed menu is made up of incredibly indulgent offerings, resulting in a meal fit for royalty and featuring opulent items like caviar, Maldivian lobster, poached quail egg, saffron champagne risotto, and much more. While the menu itself is enough to make anyone drool over their fancy courses, the food isn’t even the best part.
The restaurant, located under the ocean, has some of the most beautiful views you can find in any other dining spot. Ithaa, the name meaning “mother of pearl” in the Maldivian language, Dhivehi, is the first undersea restaurant in the world.
It’s located 5 meters (16 feet) below the surface, and the dining area is characterized by a clear tunnel-like structure that produces a draw-dropping 180-degree panoramic view of the gorgeous ocean life that surrounds it. As you enjoy your meal, you can gaze at the vibrant coral and watch as ocean life like fish, stingrays, and sharks swim right above you. It’s really no wonder that the New York Daily News named it the most beautiful restaurant in the world in 2014.
The restaurant is open each day for both lunch and dinner, but it can also be booked for private parties for breakfasts, weddings, and other special occasions. With a seating capacity of 14, Ithaa isn’t very large, which may lead you to wonder how the place isn’t jam packed 24/7 (especially given those stunning blue ocean views!). Well, truth be told, it’s not the easiest spot to get to – or afford, for that matter.
As is expected for such an elaborate meal, the price of dinner for one person is $320. It’s also located at the Conrad Maldives, a luxurious resort and hotel, which takes up the two private islands of Rangali and Rangalifinolhu that are joined by a 500 meter (1600 foot) footbridge.
However, if you do get the chance to visit the resort, you’ll certainly enjoy your time. It’s in an absolutely stunning location with plenty to do to treat yourself. I mean, how could you say no to living in the lap of luxury, pampering yourself at the spa, and laying on the white sand beach by the crystal blue waters, all to finish off with a delicious meal in Ithaa’s beautiful undersea setting?
But, honestly, I think I’d fly out to the resort for the restaurant alone. It doesn’t seem like you’ll find a more beautiful one anywhere else.
