Something beautiful happened in Illinois on Monday at the Nature Conservancy,

While giving a tour of the Illinois animal preserve director Bill Kleiman noticed a calf being born.

Now a baby bison born may┬ánot seem like anything out of the ordinary, but as Kleiman pointed out to his tour group, “”From a historical standpoint, this hasn’t happened in Illinois in about 200 years,”

Sports hunting and mass slaughter nearly wiped out the bison by the early 1900’s and the last time a wild bison was seen east of the Mississippi river was in the 1830’s. So to not only hear about a new calf being born, but to be able to see it with your own eyes must have been miraculous!

Well here’s to another victory for humans helping to fix the problem they caused hundreds of years ago, Horray!
