Tom Lynall is a Birmingham, UK artist who carves small pencil sculptures for a hobby. He’s a jeweler, and says that just last fall he was sitting in his workshop and picked up a pencil and thought he’d “carve a little heart into the tip,” but little did he know it would start him off on one of the most engrossing hobbies he’s ever had.

His hidden village, pictured above, took him about 25 hours of painstaking work. The village is inside the graphite of the pencil and features ten houses, a church, flower gardens, trees and hills.

You can see the village illuminated by moonlight here:

Of course, he actually used LED to light the tiny village.

Tom loves to use Instagram. In this one, he created the logo for the popular network. He says it’s his favorite for connecting with other artists.

Apparently he also has a spot in his heart for the classic video game Pac Man. Super cute, don’t you think?

Though he said Zelda is his very favorite. On this one, he spent four hours working on it, dropped the pencil and had to start all over again. Looks like it was worth the effort!
